Highschool me personally in Any Such Thing Goes

Greetings from sunny Southern California! My name is Jessica Frey (informally known as J Frey) and we am a Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at USC. I was raised in Hollister, a tiny farm city in Northern California which has no affiliation whatsoever with the clothing store. I attended a big public school that is high over 3,000 students and somehow found my way to USC to study theatre. My hope is that through sharing my experiences that are own I will give you some advice and help you feel at ease when you approach the college admission process.

Numerous of you readers is going to be applying to college it, and I want to make sure you know this is going to be all about you before you know. It might feel a little weird and selfish for those of you whom are constantly putting other’s needs before your own personal. But in purchase you belong and feel happy, you do need to make the college search process all about yourself for you to make an informed college list and end up at a place where.

I do not know about you, but when I happened to be in highschool I produced great deal of my decisions considering what others had been doing and thinking. It’s cool to put on pants that are red? Ok, maybe I will go get that pair I was eyeing during the mall last weekend. All the other young ones in my own class are applying to College XYZ? Maybe We should too. My counselor says I’d be good at engineering since I have like my calculus course? We wonder though I have NO IDEA what being an engineer is all about if I should apply to engineering, even. They certainly were all real thoughts I’d because well as many others through that anxious and stressful fall semester of senior year.

You let your own thoughts and ideas navigate your choices while it is very easy (and sometimes a good thing) for outside influences to shape your decisions, the college process should be one where. Listed here are three basic principles I do believe every highschool student should retain in mind while they decide where they will apply to college:

Focus on facts rather than opinions. People form views about different universities and colleges, however you should really give attention to your own personal ideas associated with schools along with the information you discover as you research the universities that interest you. It’s important that you’re enthusiastic about a college because they feature a thing that you would like in your undergraduate experience- not merely because others you know are fans of the school, or because of its well-known reputation.

Reflect on what you want in an university experience, and apply to schools accordingly. The time has come for you yourself to think about exactly what a college campus should have to enable you to be a pleased and thriving student. Are you wanting to visit college in a big city or a college town that is rural? Do you want to study abroad in a country that is particular? What sort of activities do you want to pursue outside the classroom? Do you wish to have the ability to the office closely with your professors? If you learn a college you’ve never heard of nonetheless it has all you’re looking, add it to your list! It doesn’t matter if nobody from your family or school ever knew about the faculty ahead of your breakthrough. It may be a place where you are going to have a college experience that is enjoyable.

Enjoy the search process! The process of making your university list can be quite a daunting task, but it is also an enjoyable experience. This is your opportunity to learn up to you can about the many colleges that are amazing universities across the united states. This can be your time to explore the array that is wide of and look closely during the colleges you might be considering.

I really don’t compose this web site to inform you should not listen to your parents, counselors, or peers. You might have resources that are wonderful your disposal that offer great advice and insight. Counselors find out about a variety of colleges and may even manage to tell you more about those that meet your criteria. Your parents are able to help determine which schools will financially be within reach. You simply have to make sure their advice also aligns with that which you want in an university experience.

Having said that, we did buy and totally rocked the pants that are red. We’ll acknowledge if I could get in that I applied to a college I had no intention of attending just to see. I did get into the institution, but during the end of the time that didn’t matter. It don’t make me feel better it was quite honestly a waste of time and money about myself and. But I did follow my heart and became a theater major rather than an engineer, and I’m so happy I did. More on that later.
